  • 1 lb. ground beef (15% fat)
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 (15-oz.) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15-oz.) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15-oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (15-oz.) can diced tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth (or chicken broth/water)

Instructions

  • In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  • Add diced onion and minced garlic, sauté until softened.
  • Stir in chili powder, garlic powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Add tomato paste, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, pinto beans, kidney beans, and maple syrup. Mix well.
  • Pour in the beef broth and bring the chili to a simmer.
  • Lower the heat and let it cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve hot with optional toppings like shredded cheddar cheese, Fritos, and green onions.

  • Adjust the level of spiciness by modifying the amount of chili powder.
  • For a thicker chili, reduce the amount of broth.
