  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes (14 oz)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 9 lasagna sheets
  • 2 cups béchamel sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large pan, add onion, and cook until softened. Add garlic and sauté for another minute.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Stir in tomato paste, canned tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red wine (if using). Simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a baking dish, layer lasagna sheets, meat sauce, and béchamel. Repeat layers.
  • Top the final layer with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden and bubbling. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For added depth, use a combination of ground beef and pork.
  • The red wine can be omitted if preferred.
  • Use fresh lasagna sheets for a quicker cook time.
