Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup uncooked orzo pasta
  • 1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy/whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups fresh baby spinach (packed)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion, garlic, red pepper flakes, and Italian seasoning. Cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in the orzo, tomato sauce, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until orzo is tender.
  • Reduce heat, then add the heavy cream and parmesan. Stir until well combined.
  • Add spinach and cook until wilted. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve hot, topped with extra parmesan if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • Adjust crushed red pepper flakes for desired spice level.
  • For a lighter version, swap heavy cream with half-and-half or whole milk.
