  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 Tablespoon light soy sauce or coconut aminos (for Gluten-Free version)
  • 4 teaspoons red chili flakes or red pepper flakes
  • Cornstarch slurry:
    • 3 teaspoons cornstarch
    • 2 Tablespoons water

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, combine vinegar, water, sugar, garlic, soy sauce (or coconut aminos), and red chili flakes.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to form a slurry.
  • Slowly whisk the slurry into the simmering sauce until thickened.
  • Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until desired consistency is reached.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool. Store in a jar in the refrigerator.
