Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the chicken for 6-7 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add butter and sliced onions. Cook for 5 minutes until soft and golden.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  4. Stir in flour, cook for 1-2 minutes, then slowly whisk in chicken broth and cream. Simmer for 5 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  5. Return the chicken to the skillet, spooning the gravy over the top. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes to heat through.
  6. Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley and serve.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add mushrooms or bell peppers to the gravy.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes or rice for a hearty meal.
  • You can use bone-in chicken for more flavor, but adjust the cooking time.
